Harold A. Lane

MASON CITY Harold A. Lane, 84 of Mason City died Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday (February 5, 2010) at the First Assembly of God Church, 1301 N. Carolina Ave., with the Pastor George Ady officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be from 4:00P.M. 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to the Harold A. Lane memorial fund.
Harold was born April 2, 1925, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Everett and Mae (Bruce) Lane. He attended school in Idaville, IN. Harold grew up in Monticello, IN until 1946, and then moved to Trenton, MO. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 - 1943. Harold was united in marriage to Edna L. Eygabroad on March 9, 1947 in Trenton, MO. The couple moved to Mason City in 1947. Through the years Harold and Edna did janitorial work at McGladery and Pullen. Harold was a Leader Operator for the Northwestern States Portland Cement Company for 35 years until his retirement in 1987. Harold was a member of First Assembly of God Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed playing cards, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, woodworking, traveling and spending time with his friends and family.
Harold is survived by his children: Diana Sable of Mason City, Jim Lane of Nashville, Tennessee, Steve Lane and wife Nancy of Mason City; daughter-in-law, Dixie Lane of Rockford; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and one sister, Imojean Wakeland of Idaville, IN and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Edna Lane in 2005; one son, Lewis Lane in 2001; four brothers: Alfred, Paul, Richard and Robert Lane; one sister; Leota.
