PLYMOUTH, IA: Harry L. Bud Cottrell Jr., 82, of Plymouth, died Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 from 6:00 PM 8:00PM. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Harry Cottrell memorial fund.
Harry was born May 6, 1926 in Mason City, the son of Harry Sr. and Avis (Briggs) Cottrell. He graduated from Mason City High School. In 1948, he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force. On May 1, 1950, he married Minnie Strand. With this union, they had two sons: Jay and Jon. On December 8, 2002, Harry married June Corneilus in Hawaii. He worked for Determan Electric after his discharge from the military. He also worked with his father Harry Sr. wiring houses. He was employed for 39 years with Crescent Electric in sales before retiring in 1998. After retiring, he enjoyed working on cars with his brother in law Ken Stevens, especially his MG. He also enjoyed traveling the world with his wife June and golfing with Whitey Olson. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially Christmas morning, opening presents with Jon and his children. He was a member of the VFW.
He is survived by his wife: June Cottrell of Plymouth; his son: Jon Cottrell and Fianc Becky of Plymouth; 3 grandchildren: Stephanie Ellman and husband Jarod of Mason City, Catherine Cottrell of Cedar Falls, and Marcus Cottrell of Manly, IA; his two sisters: Thelma Bean of Florida, Eva Stevens of Mason City; one brother Bob Cottrell of South Dakota; his step children: Judy Siesseger and husband John of Clear Lake, Rick Patton and wife Jackie of Mason City, Julie Borcherding and special friend Scott of Hampton, IA, and Joleen Beavers and husband Tim of Mason City; 12 step grandchildren; 16 step great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Bonnie Smith of Tustin, CA, Avis Keenan and husband Denny of Tujunga, CA; one brother-in-law: Danny Godfrey and wife Millie of Mason City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Minnie in 1980, his son Jay and a sister: Erdy
