Harvey F. Meyer

Clear Lake - Harvey F. Meyer, 80, of Clear Lake, died Monday, June 9, 2008, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday (June 11, 2008) at First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia, with the Rev. Jo Frahm-Watkins officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or the Hospice of North Iowa.
 
Harvey F. Meyer was born December 13, 1927, in Manly, Iowa, the son of Irving and Anneliese (Kaiser) Meyer.  He attended Manly Schools and graduated in 1946.  He started farming at the family farm and did so until he retired.  He was married to Norma Eckard on August 27, 1950, at the English Lutheran Church in Manly. They were married 57 years. In his later years of farming he also drove school bus for Manly Schools. After retirement, he and Norma moved to Clear Lake.
Harvey enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards, the quartet music of his two sons, and he enjoyed the time he spent on the farm.  Family was important to him and he loved the time he spent with them, especially his grandchildren.  He also liked spending time with his Coffee Club at the Backyard Deli in Clear Lake.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mason City and was a former member of the church council at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly.  He also served terms on the Board of Directors of the Farmers Cooperative in Manly.
 
He is survived by his wife, Norma, of Clear Lake; children, Dennis Meyer and wife B.J. of Owatonna, MN, Donald Meyer and wife Kris of Forest City, and Jody Rodriguez and husband Scott of Waterbury, CT; grandchildren, Jon and Renee Meyer, Molly Meyer, Maria Meyer, Andrew and Alice Sandahl Meyer and Cory Rodriguez; great grandchild, Shea Meyer; sister, Jeanette Followwill; brother, Delbert Meyer; brothers-in-law, Melvin Eckard Jr., Keith Eckard and wife Darla, Bill Eckard and wife Donna; sisters-in-law, LaVonne Dority, Jean Moore and husband Loren, Donna Holm and husband Wes, Patty Hall, and many nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law, Jerry Eckard, Bud Dority and Lowell Hall.
