Hedwig Hedy Heggestad

Hedwig ?Hedy? A. Heggestad, 86, of Mason City, died Tuesday August 8, 2006 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday August 14, 2006 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Pastor Tom Healey officiating. Inurnment will be in Elmwood ? St. Joseph Cemetery. A gathering of friends will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Humane Society of North Iowa or Hospice of North Iowa. Hedy was born April 1, 1920 in Munich, Germany, the daughter of Joseph Troendle and Hedwig (Kitzinger) Troendle. She moved to the United States in 1948 where she worked various jobs, but her primary occupation was cosmetology. Hedy married Larry Heggestad on June 17, 1950 in Northwood and they were married nearly 50 years. Hedy had a great passion for helping animals, especially dogs. As a child, she would bring strays to her home, and as an adult, she provided a loving home for both cats and dogs. Hedy is survived by her sister-in-law Melba; many nieces and nephews; friends; and her two beloved dogs, Susie and Brownie. Hedy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters-in-law Helen and Verna, and many of her pets.
