Helen G. DeSart, 93, of 302 2nd St. NE, formerly of 36 Beaumont Drive, died Monday (May 17, 2004) at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Memorial services will be held 1:30 PM Friday (June 4, 2004) at the First Presbyterian Church, 201 Willowbrook Drive with Rev. Terry Hamilton-Poore officiating. Private inurnment will take place in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, Hospice of North Iowa or donor?s choice. Helen was born July 11, 1910 in Mason City to Herman L. and Ada Stella (Bergen) Green. She graduated from Mason City High School and attended Mason City Junior College and Grinnell College. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Helen married Chester R. DeSart December 29, 1938 in Mason City. She delighted in giving hundreds of children their first educational experience teaching kindergarten in the Mason City School District for 25 years, retiring in 1975. She was the longest living member of the First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school and served as an Elder and Deacon. She was also a member of PEO Chapter KX, Phoenician Club and Retired School Personnel. She was a Girl Scout Leader, North Iowa Band Festival Hostess and was active in the Community Theatre. Helen is survived by 2 daughters, Judith Rosseth and husband Robert H. of New Bern, NC, Antoinette Saul and husband William G. of Fairfield Glade, TN; grandchildren, Bryan T. Monroe and wife Wendy of Austin, TX, Jason A. Monroe and wife Jennifer of Des Moines, Lynn M. Rosseth of Annandale, VA, Jane A. Rosseth of Los Angeles, CA; great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Hayden and Garrison Monroe of Austin, TX, Max Monroe of Des Moines; brother, Dr. Robert W. Green and wife Ellinor of Flagstaff, AZ; sister-in-law, Ruth DeSart of Mason City; 4 nieces and 6 nephews, including Susan Borcherding, Jan and Jay Beck from the Mason City area. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, a sister in infancy, husband, Chester R. DeSart; 2 sisters, Marjorie Ferguson and Betty Gibson; sister-in-law, Helen Beck.
