Helen H. Meyer

Helen H. Meyer, 93, of 1134 First Street NW, died Monday (February 7, 2005) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 First Street NE with Rev. Samuel Hamilton-Poore officiating. Interment will be in Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be given to the First Congregational United Church of Christ or the donor?s choice. Miss Meyer was born in Mason City on September 12, 1911 the only child of Raymond H. and Emma (Hanson) Meyer. She resided in Mason City her entire life. She graduated from Mason City High School with the class of 1929, attended Mason City Junior College, NIACC, and graduated from Hamilton?s College of Commerce. For a number of years, she was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, working as a secretary in both the local and district offices. In August of 1938, she went to work in the same capacity for People?s Gas & Electric Company, Interstate Power Company, now Alliant Energy, working there for 38 years. She retired in October of 1976. She was a member of the Quarter Century Club of Interstate Power. A member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, she, for many years sang with the church choir. After her retirement, she became active in the Women?s Fellowship of the church serving as its president and holding other elective offices. She also served on the Board of Trustees of the church as well as the music committee. For a number of years, she was a member of the Mason City Women?s Club, Occident Study Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and a volunteer at North Iowa Medical Center. Miss Meyer is survived by several cousins; Betty Secory and husband Lawrence of Clear Lake, Virginia Fanselow of Dows, James A. Smith and wife Phelva of Oak Lawn, IL, Ann Riley and husband Bill of Clear Lake, Isabelle Callahan and husband Robert of Marcellus, NY, Marjorie Corbin of Sun City, AZ. Miss Meyer?s parents preceded her in death.
