Helen M. Burtis, 91, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 13, with a visitation one hour prior to services at Faith Baptist Church, 1807 S. Kentucky Ave., Mason City, with Pastor Miles Grismore and Pastor Greg Gosnell officiating. Interment will be held at Lu Verne Cemetery in Lu Verne, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday March 12, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City. Memorials may be directed to Faith Baptist Church in Mason City. Helen was born in Sexton, Iowa, December 23, 1923. The family moved in 1927 to Lu Verne, Iowa where she attended Lu Verne Schools and graduated in 1940. She attended Hamilton College in Mason City and worked until her marriage on January 12, 1944 to Daryl Burtis to which 4 children were born, Gregg, Shirley, Sharon, and Marcia. Helen worked for VA in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Social Security in Mason City and Marshalltown, Iowa until her retirement in 1988. She was preceded in death by the love of her life husband Daryl in 2005. She is the last surviving member of her family of Alex and Anna Miller. She had 9 sisters and brothers, John Miller, Henry Miller, Kathryn Johnson, Pauline Johnson, Mary Ristau, Freda Wermerson, Leah Anderson, June Jensen, and Robert Miller. She was also preceded in death by grandchildren Cathleen Jorgensen and Matthew Jorgensen. Left to cherish her memory is her son: Gregg (Marla) Burtis, Sioux Falls, SD; daughters: Shirley Jorgensen, St. Louis, MO; Sharon (David) Kallemeyn, Rapid City, SD; and Marcia (Bob) Curtis of Mason City; grandchildren: Jeff (Michelle) Burtis and children Dani, Jaci, and Jeni; Lisa (Mike) Hokenstad and children Alexa and Nick; Ryan (Erin) Burtis and children Scott, Logan, and Katelyn; Thad (Jeanene) Jorgensen and son Connor; Carrie (Don) Gray and children Mya, Cole, Dylan, and Nora; Michael (Emily) Jorgensen and sons Elliott and Jonah; Brenda Kallemeyn; Margaret (Drew) Anderson and son Reid, and Crystal (John) Richards and son Jack and many nieces and nephews. Thank you to the IOOF Home staff for all the special care given to our mom.

Interment will be held at Lu Verne Cemetery in Lu Verne, Iowa.
