MASON CITY Helen V. Ritter, 88, of Mason City, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM on Friday, July 22, 2011, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave ., with Rev. Patti Aurand officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Helen V. Ritter Memorial Fund, in care of the family.
Helen was born September 1, 1922, in Mason City, the daughter of William and Elsie (Caine) LeDuc. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1940. On August 2, 1942, she married Paul F. Ritter at First Congregational Church in Mason City, and to this union came a son, Larry, in 1945 and adopted daughter, Teresa, in 1965. Helen was a Boy Scout leader for 3 years, Girl Scout leader for 5 years, a volunteer at Harding School to help children to read, and North Multipurpose Distribution of Commodities to help with applications (heat assistance). She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles, the card game 500, and loved Chicago Cubs baseball. She was also a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ and the Card Club, of which she was an original member that started in 1947.
Helen is survived by her children, Larry (Patricia) Ritter of Mason City, Teresa Ritter of Mason City; granddaughters, Jean (David) Whitney, Suzanne (Barry) Bodtke; step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Carson and Stephen Byerly, Jr.; great granddaughters, Lauren and Sarah Bodtke.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul in 1990; brothers, Robert, Ronald, Walter, and William LeDuc; sisters, Shirley Baker, Rosalie McCauley and Judy Tenny.
