LELAND: Herbert B. Holland, 95, died Friday, March 3, 2006 at home under the care of his family and with the assistance of Hospice. Memorial services will be held at a later date on the family farm near Leland. Memorials may be directed to Martha Olson, 101 Anderson Street, Jewell, Iowa 50130. Herbert was born March 24, 1910 near Leland, Iowa the son of H.C. and Anna (Haugen) Holland. He graduated from Leland High School then attended Waldorf College for 2 years. Herbert graduated from Iowa State University in 1933 with a degree in Chemistry. While in college, he met his future wife, Mary Jane Sankot. They were married October 27, 1935 in Lisbon, Iowa. Herbert and Mary Jane returned to the family farm near Leland where Herbert farmed until his retirement in 1983. Herbert was a member of Our Saviour?s Lutheran Church in Leland and had served on the Forest City School Board. Herbert is survived by 7 children, David (Beverly) Holland of Plainwell, Michigan, Jan (Lois) Holland of Centre Hall, Pennsylvania, Marianne (Greg) Michel of Des Moines, Iowa, Rebecca Doren of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Martha (Robert) Olson of Jewell, Iowa, Diane (Steve) Rickerl of Aurora, South Dakota and Daniel (Marcia) Holland of Gulf Breeze, Florida; 17 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Jane in 2003; infant daughter, Susan Jean; 3 brothers, Arthur, Clifford and Elvin; 1 grandson.
