Hjordis "Dolly" G. Schipper

Hjordis “Dolly” Schipper, 94, died Monday, July 31, 2017, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Friday, August 4, 2017 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church with the Pastor Matthew Muters officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 AM Friday at the church. Should friends desire, memorials may be directed to the Hjordis Schipper Memorial Fund in care of her family.

Hjordis Gertrude Mortenson, daughter to Fred and Mabel Mortenson, was born on October 24, 1922, in Clinton, Iowa. She was united in marriage with Harold Schipper, Sr. on February 5, 1944, in San Diego, California. They were blessed with three children, Harold "Skip" Schipper, Jr., Abigail Hansen, and Adam Schipper.

Hjordis was a wonderful homemaker and took great pride in it. She also worked part time at Sears for several years. In her younger days, she loved to sunbathe and spend time outdoors gardening. She was an amazing cook and loved having family get-togethers. She also enjoyed reading and going for walks around her neighborhood. She loved visiting with family that would stop by, and of course she did it with a cup of coffee and a cookie (or two). She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter and sister, and for her, family always came first. She really excelled at being a grandma, however…she had said that it was something that always brought her joy. Her beautiful, pink-lipsticked smile will be missed by many.

Hjordis was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, brothers, Morris Mortenson and Clarence Mortenson, and sister, Evelyn Blunt.

Hjordis is survived by her children, Harold (Jan) Schipper, Jr., Abigail (Jeffrey) Hansen and Adam Schipper; her grandchildren, Heather (Mohammed Laaboudi) Hansen, Missy (Jeff) Sneed, Jeremy Hansen and Sarah Schipper; her great-grandchildren, Malik Hagood, Ismael Laaboudi and Yusuf Laaboudi; and many special nieces and nephews.
