Ilene C Johnson

MASON CITY - Ilene Johnson, 86, of Mason City died Thursday (Nov. 3, 2005) at her home. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. with the Rev. Bill Poland of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield. Memorials may be directed to the Mason City Public Library for use to purchase large print books and books on tape. Ilene Crook was born on March 16, 1919, the daughter of Frank J. and Esther L. (Leider) Crook on the family farm near Sheffield. Before moving to Mason City in 1931 she attended country school and graduated from Mason City High School in 1936. During World War II, Ilene worked in Long Beach, Calif., in the ship yards as a welder. She then moved to Kansas City, Mo., where she worked for a glider factory, also as a welder. Ilene was united in marriage to Edwin G. "Bunny" Johnson on Aug. 30, 1952, at the Grace United Methodist Parsonage in Mason City. She worked various other jobs in the area including the catalogue department at Sears for five years before retiring in 1981. Ilene was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church, Past President of the VFW Auxiliary and a member of the Senior Citizens Center. Ilene is survived by her husband, Edwin G. "Bunny" Johnson of Mason City; daughter, Jillann Larson, of Minneapolis, Minn.; sister, Florence Peterson, of Mason City; many nieces, nephews; and many, many dear friends.
