Irene Z. Hart, 98, of Mason City, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the Heritage Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Church of Christ, 501 Commercial Street – Union, IA, with Rev. Rick Schill officiating. Interment will be at the Hillside Cemetery in State Center, IA. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Friday, April 5, 2013 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue – Mason City, IA. Memorials may be directed to the Irene Hart memorial fund in care of the family. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com Irene was born May 18, 1914, in Marshall County, IA, the daughter of Ross and Grace (Goodwin) Pope. She attended Union Schools. On May 31, 1933, Irene married Donald Patterson in Whitten, IA, and later married Elmer Hart on April 2, 1949, in Yankton, SD. Aside from being a homemaker, she also worked for the Des Moines Register for 10 years – making rural Sunday paper deliveries. Irene enjoyed spending time with her family, collecting bells, gardening, bird watching, playing Tic Tac Toe, crafting and spending time with her guardian, Corinne Sills. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Irene is survived by 3 children: Dolores Tracy and husband Burton of Clarion, Carolyn Muessigmann and husband Donald of Mason City and Dennis Hart of Marshalltown; 14 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband in 2002; one son: Ronald Patterson; 4 sisters; and 2 brothers.

Cemetery:
Interment will be at the Hillside Cemetery in State Center, IA.
