J. Benjamin ?Ben? Curran, 87, of Mason City died Sunday, March 7, 2004 at the Heritage Care Center. Funeral services for Ben will be held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at First United Methodist Church, 119 South Georgia Avenue, with the Rev. Jim Stiles officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa and the North Iowa Fair. Ben was born January 14, 1917 the son of John L. and Almeda S. (Nordstrom) Curran in Mason City. He attended schools in Owen and Mason City and would later attend Iowa State University. Ben was united in marriage to Katherine ?Kaye? Bisgrove on November 25, 1942 in Mason City. He and his wife farmed southeast of Mason City for many years and were in the cattle breeding business. Ben was a member of First United Methodist Church, and served as the Director of the Portland Coop. He also was a past 4-H Leader, and Director of the Iowa Polled Hereford Association. Ben was a member of the Iowa Cattlemens Association and served on the Agriculture Advisory Board for N.I.A.C.C. He enjoyed fox, deer and pheasant hunting and was a supporter of the 4 ? H Youth throughout the years. Ben was also inducted into the Iowa Polled Hereford Association Hall of Fame. Ben is survived by his children; Alan Curran and wife Peg of Nora Springs, Sharon Osteen and husband David of Clayton, California, Jay Curran and wife Christine of Nora Springs and Sue Carnahan and husband Dennis of Kellogg, Iowa; grandchildren; Tami Wirth and husband Jeff of Hutchinson, MN, Toni Olson and husband John of Charles City, Tara Guza and husband James of Litchfield, MN, Jennifer Osteen of Clayton, CA, David Osteen and wife Laura of Concord, CA, and Deborah Osteen of Clayton, CA, Shane and Lance Carnahan of Kellogg, Iowa; great grandchildren, Dillon, Jessica, Mikayla, Justin, Jolie and Madison; sister, Lucille Cannon of San Diego, CA, 3 sister-in-laws, Doris Curran of Lincoln, NE, Therese Curran and Dorothy Curran both of Mason City and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Katherine; daughter Karen; brothers, Lester, Charles and Leigh; sisters, Grace Whisler, Loetta Martin and Blanche Fiedler.
