Jack M. Wharam, 85, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away peacefully at home with family at his side on April 26, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday (April 30, 2008) at Hanford Community Church, 12411 Spruce Avenue, Mason City Iowa. Visitation will be held on hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held in Rockwell Cemetery. The family requests memorial gifts be directed to Gideon's International.
Jack Merchant Wharam was born October 8, 1922 at Mason City, Iowa to Owen and Aleta (Merchant) Wharam. He was a 1940 graduate of Mason City High School, where he met Roberta Huff. They were married in Rockwell, IA on June 21, 1942. Jack enlisted in the US Navy in 1944, serving two years, including overseas on Guam. Upon returning home to Iowa, after honorable discharge, he was engaged in farming. In 1959, they moved to Devils Lake. N.D. where he farmed for the next thirty years. In 1990 Jack & Roberta retired and moved to the Indianapolis, Indiana area.
A WWII veteran, Jack was active in "Gideon's International" and a member of College Park Church, Indianapolis. For more than twenty years Jack shared his faith in Christ with youth at Fahocha Bible Camp, Devils Lake, N.D., and with residents of a McVille, N.D. nursing home for 18 years.
He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, often helping with special projects in their homes. His family benefited from both his carpentry skills and his Godly wisdom.
Survivors include Roberta, his wife of 65 years, children: Trudy (Dayton) Molendorp, Indianapolis, IN; Glen (Vernie) Wharam, Park River, ND; Terry (Keith) Rae, Laurel, MT; Tracy (Bob) Blazek, Crookston, MN, 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and sister Ellen (Bert) Nelson, Clear Lake, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Eva Martin and Margaretta Baago.
