MASON CITY James F. Paulsen, Jr., age 45, of Mason City, died Sunday, October 9, 2011, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Ed Bard, Hospice of North Iowa Chaplain, officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 7:00 PM on Friday, October 14, at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. James was born on August 20, 1966, in Riverside, CA, the son of James and Barbara (McDowall) Paulsen. He attended school in Mason City. He worked as a roofer in construction all his life and was known as a construction man by day and family man by night. Music was a passion for James and he enjoyed all aspects of it including singing, writing music and playing instruments. James also enjoyed the outdoors, sports, especially the Minnesota Vikings, and gambling. Of all the enjoyment in James life, his kids exceeded them all. He spent his free time traveling and always looked for the deal next door. If you thought you were right, James always believed he could prove you wrong (Paulsen Power!)
James is preceded in death by his wife of 17 years, Suzanne Paulsen of Albert Lea, MN; his children, Jamie (Jessica) Paulsen, Shannon Paulsen, Mikki Paulsen, Bradley Paulsen, Christian Paulsen, Jenna Savoy, K.J. Savoy, Jr., all of Mason City; grandchildren, Isaiah, Adriannah, Darius, Donte, Aubrea, Traevon, Payton, and one unborn; siblings, Jeffrey Paulsen, Richard Murl, Don (Shelly) Murl, Ron Paulsen, Sheri Murl, Belinda (Jason) Schulz, Mellissa (Joe) Adams; parents, Barbara (James) Bond, James (Gloria) Paulsen; life-long friends, Brad Winters, Scott Germundson, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Grandma and Grandpa McDowall; paternal grandparents, Grandma and Grandpa Paulsen; and many others.
