James ?Jim? A. Smith, 84, of Mason City, Ia. died Friday, November 2, 2007 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Ave, with Pastor Patti Aurand of First Congregational United Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 PM ? 8 PM Monday (November 5, 2007) at Major Erickson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit or the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Jim was born September 9, 1923 in Randall, Ia, the son of Arthur and Cora (Fisher) Smith. He attended school in Forest City, Ia. He married Verna Mae Thornbury on December 3, 1944 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Ia. and later married Lynnea Bosch on July 23, 1999. Jim loved to go fishing, boating, golfing, camping and time with his family. He also enjoyed traveling, especially his winters in Texas. Drinking coffee and visiting with friends was a part of his daily schedule. Jim was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Jim is survived by his wife: Lynnea; two daughters: Judy (Eric) Barsness of Eau Claire, Wi., and Jane (John) Harrod, Jr. of Middleton, Wi.; four grandchildren: Susy (John) Stoffer, J. Scott (Susan) Harrod, Matthew (Annette) Barsness, and James (Casey) Harrod; six great grandchildren; one cousin; and several sister and brother-in-laws. He is also survived by four step-children: Lonnie, Lori, Sheri, and Julie and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife: Verna Mae in 1993, one brother: Warren Smith, one sister: Buenetta Kroeze and stepfather: Russell Pitkin.
