JANE LAZARD KINSEY, 88, of Mason City died Sunday, May 30, 2010 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. A service celebrating her life will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, June 19, 2010 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 First Street NE with Rev. Patty Aurand officiating. A gathering with family will follow the service in the Stone Fellowship Room.
Jane was born July 11, 1921 in Springfield, Illinois to Ben and Alice (Abraham) Lazard. She lived her early years in Highland Park, Illinois. After graduating from Highland Park High School Jane attended Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa where she met Robert (Bob) Kinsey Jr. When Bob graduated from Grinnell College and started law school Jane moved to New Orleans where her parents originally lived and where she then attended Sophie Newcomb, the womens branch of Tulane University.
Bob and Jane were married in May1942 after which Bob was drafted into the war effort and Jane returned to living with her parents in Highland Park. Children born to this marriage are Robert (Chip) Kinsey III (Kathy) of Mason City, Ben Kinsey of Mareno Valley, California, and Bill Kinsey (Elma) of Laguna Niguel, California. Grandchildren are Jessica Kinsey, Catlain Kinsey, Kristoffer Kinsey and Kristie Guzman, and great grandchild Lex Guzman. Jane was preceded in death by her parents Alice and Ben, her brother Jack and husband Bob.
Jane and Bob moved to Mason City in 1947 after Bob completed law school. Jane was a loving and supportive mother, a wonderfully creative cook and a friend to many. She belonged to numerous organizations including the League of Women Voters, PEO, her church fellowship and History Club. She and Bob loved to travel particularly along back roads, through small towns visiting country houses of Great Britain. Janes primary occupation was a housewife and mother and later in life as a volunteer at Mercy hospital and with the Mason City School District. Jane was known to attend garage sales in search of small vases so that that those who were sad, sick or grieving could receive a flower personally delivered. She was also a devoted Cub Scout leader. Jane loved a good game of bridge and was one of those people who could carry on a conversation while still keeping track of her cards. Her family was her principle focus with whom she shared her joys of life and her pride in their activities and success. Jane was also very supportive of the success of the MacNider Art Museum where in early 2007 she and her brother Jack were pleased to share with area citizens their mother Alice Lazards retrospective exhibit of her paintings and drawings.
Those wishing to offer memorials are encouraged to consider the First Congregational United Church of Church, MacNider Art Museum, Hospice of North Iowa, Central Gardens, Wright on the Park or the donors own favorite charity.
