Janelle M. Peterson, 54, of 809 14th St. S.E., Mason City, died Saturday April 12, 2008 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit surrounded by family and friends after battling cancer. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday (April 17, 2008) at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Kathy Graves officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue at the church one hour prior to the service at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Hospice of North Iowa or the Janelle M. Peterson Memorial Fund.
Janelle was born April 7, 1954 in Mason City, the daughter of Al and Janet (Rowe) Heinz. She graduated from Mason City High School and attended NIACC. She married Ken Peterson on January 25, 1975 in a blizzard at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mason City. After Ken served in the Air Force in San Antonio, Texas, they returned to Mason City. Janelle was employed at Park Clinic, now the Mason City Clinic, for 19 years before retiring due to health reasons.
Janelle enjoyed hosting and entertaining family and friends at her home and she treasured the time she spent with them. She also enjoyed visiting her parents in Weslaco, Texas in the winter the past 11 years, going to Mexico shopping, visiting South Padre Island to feed the sea gulls, and going to Las Vegas to visit Kens cousin.
Janelle is survived by her husband, Ken, two sons; Eric, and Kyle and wife Sara; grandson, Tyler; her father, Al Heinz; brother, Fred Heinz and his wife Cheri Ross all of Mason City; in-laws Allen and Arlene Peterson of Ventura; other relatives and friends; her Pug, Molly and grand dogs, Boone and Eddie. Janelle was preceded in death by her mother Janet and grandparents.
