Janet Ann Anderson, 87, of Mason City, died Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams with Archbishop Michael Jackels, celebrant. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue Thursday at the church one hour prior to the mass. A scriptural wake service will be held at 7:30 PM Wednesday at Major Erickson. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Janet Anderson Memorial Fund.
Janet was born June 17, 1929 in Evanston, Illinois the daughter of William and Antonia (Uphmann) Beelen. She was her high school class president, graduating from Evanston Township High School in 1947. Janet married Carl G. Anderson August 28, 1948 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Chicago. Janet and Carl shared the same June 17th birthdate. They lived in the Chicagoland area moving to Mason City in 1969 due to Carl being transferred by his employer, AC Nielsen. Janet worked as a secretary/bookkeeper, first, for Les Nelson Construction then for Pappajohn Shriver Eide & Nielsen. She retired in 1994. From 1995-2006, Janet and Carl enjoyed their winter home in Rockport, Texas. While there, they spent time fishing off the deck of their winter home or by boat in the bays of the Gulf of Mexico. In earlier years, Janet played golf and bowled regularly. Later in life, she enjoyed her vegetable garden, fruit trees and canning that fruit and her flowers around the house. Janet was a member of Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church since moving to Mason City in 1969.
Janet is survived by 1 son, Stephen M. (Cheryl) Anderson of Tomball, Texas; 2 grandchildren, Antonia (David) Hilton of Austin, Texas and Brad Anderson of San Antonio, Texas; 2 great grandchildren, Avery and Emma Hilton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Carl in 2010; 1 sister and 1 brother.
