Janet L. Dean

Janet Louise Dean, 48, of 730 15th St. NE, died Friday (June 25, 2004) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Monday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 1st St. NE, with Rev. Samuel Hamilton-Poore officiating. Private family inurnment services will take place at a later date. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 1st St. NE. Memorials may be given to the Janet L. Dean Memorial Fund. Janet was born December 1, 1955 the daughter of Nelson and Marjorie Miles in Riceville, Iowa. Her mother died when Janet was 16 months old. She was then adopted by her aunt and uncle, Dale and Louise Swanson, they were mom and dad. Janet graduated from Mason City High School in 1974 and North Iowa Area Community College in 1997. Jan worked at a variety of jobs with the most recent being Good Shepherd Health Center and Marshall and Swift. Jan enjoyed her family, friends, and needlework. Her grandchildren were the highlights of her life. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She is survived by her mother, Louise Miles Swanson of Mason City; biological father, Nelson Miles and his wife Kay of Green Valley, AZ; children, Brandee and Gary Dean of Mason City; grandchildren, Garret, Morgan and Zane; former husband and friend, Scott Dean of Mason City; sisters, Eileen Swanson Mediger and husband Randy of Waterville, MN, Mary Miles French of Rockville, MD, Ellen Miles Christiansen and husband Ed of Doha, Qatar; brothers, Bill Miles and wife Colette of LeRoy, MN, Randy Miles of Merrill, WI; special ?sister?, Dawn Dean of Mason City; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding her in death were her father, Dale Swanson; biological mother, Marjorie Meehan Miles; sister, Susan Miles and her mother-in-law, Mary Dean.
