Janice was born December 5, 1940, in Mason City, the daughter of Slyvestor and Gladys F. (Zorn) Basgall. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1958, and continued her education at LaJames College of Cosmetology. Her parents owned a grocery store on South Federal where she worked until she graduated. She spent most of her teenage years hanging around with her friends, scooping the loop and roller skating. After graduating from beauty school, Janice worked for a short time at a beauty shop in Charles City, IA. She came back to Mason City and worked at Damons Beauty Salon. She also held other various jobs before her retirement in 2002. Throughout the years she enjoyed crocheting, spending time with family and friends, knitting, arts and crafts, being a foster grandparent at Harding Elementary School, as well as spending time with her cat: Star. Most of all, she enjoyed reading the Bible. She had a strong belief in God, and was a beloved member of Riverside Friends Church.
