Janiece “Jan” Lenore (Johnson) Bakken, 84 of Mason City, died Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at home after a brave fight with cancer. Per Jan's request there will be no service. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa. Jan was born in rural Northwood, Iowa to Alfred and Christine Johnson on February 27, 1929. She was baptized and confirmed at Silver Lake Lutheran Church. She was married to Howard Bakken on June 5, 1948 in Northwood. To this union they had 3 daughters, Dianne (Chuck) Meyers, Plymouth, lowa, Connie (Mark) Suby, Mason City, Nancy Serdahl, Naples, Florida; grandchildren include Heather Suby, Jason Suby (Sarah),Suzanne (Gary) Miller, Michelle Meyers, Benjamin (Amy) Serdahl and Shane (special friend Michelle) Serdahl; great grandchildren, Ethan, Brock and Brynn Suby, Benjamin and Nicholas Miller, and Mason Serdahl; brother, Gilman (Mayvis) Johnson of Northwood, and several nieces and nephews. Jan spent her working years in various insurance agencies. In January of 2001, Jan retired and moved to Naples, Florida where she continued to work at Walmart as a greeter for 11 years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and worshipped at Christen Victor Lutheran Church in Naples, Florida. Due to her health, Jan returned to Mason City in May of 2012. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Gladys; brother, Arnold (Cecil), and brother Glenn (Thera); ex-husband, Howard Bakken.
