Jay A. Whitehurst, 54, of Mason City, died Friday, April 13, 2012, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Harvestime Church, 804 N. Tyler, with Pastor George Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Monday (April 16, 2012) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Jay Whitehurst memorial fund in care of the family. Jay was born July 21, 1957, in Mason City, the son of Lee and Marie “Mick” (Casey) Whitehurst. He was baptized at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in September of 1957. He attended Clear Lake High School. On May 8, 1976, Jay married Suzann Berry in Mason City. He worked for POET Biorefining in Hanlontown, IA. Jay was a motorcycle enthusiast and loved to ride. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, listening to music, and playing with his dogs. Jay was a member of Harvestime Church. Jay is survived by his wife of 35 years: Suzann Whitehurst of Mason City; two sons: Cody and Jesse Whitehurst; his parents; three siblings: Robin Nye (Tom Turek), Kristine Mendoza (Alvaro), and James Whitehurst – all of Clear Lake. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Glen & Evelyn Whitehurst and Alfred & Gena Casey; and by his in-laws, H. Blake and Jean Berry.
