Jean Hallman, 73, of Mason City, IA, died Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa, following a short illness. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM on Friday April 10, 2015, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorial services will be held 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Praise Community Church, 11 2nd St NW, with Pastor Jeff Dahlin officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Jean Hallman memorial fund in care of the family or Praise Community Church. Norma Jean Newell was born March 13, 1942, in Mason City, the daughter of Charles W. and Buena G. (Bogardus) Newell. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1960, and Hamilton Business College in 1985. On December 16, 1961, Jean married James R. Hallman during a snow storm in Mason City. Over the years she worked as a seamstress for Risto (9 years), as an office manager at Lane Brothers (9 years), and as an administrative assistant at Francis Lauer Youth Services (9 years), until her retirement in 2004. Jean very much enjoyed traveling to see family & friends. She enjoyed playing the organ, collecting beanie babies, sewing, quilting, traveling, camping, music and growing with new technology (always having the newest gadget to figure out!). Jean was a member of Praise Community Church, Mended Hearts Chapter #222, and was a Preceptor for Alpha Omega Chapter Beta Sigma Phi. She very much enjoyed living at The Manor and the many friendships, especially the Birthday Bunch. Anyone who knew her, knew she loved everything purple!! Jean is survived by her husband of 53 years: James R. Hallman of Mason City; 3 children: Steven Hallman of Atlantic, IA, Dawn Warnhoff and husband Phil of Marshalltown, IA, and Michelle Brown and husband Mike of Henderson, TN; 8 grandchildren: Cassandra Hallman, Rebekah Hallman, Jessica Jo Hargrave and husband Caleb, Tony Willsher and wife Christina, Caleb Willsher, Lillie Derryberry and Daniel Derryberry; and Christopher Brown; 2 honorary grandchildren: Jenna Hamann and Jordan Hamann; 4 great grandchildren: Mya Dawn, Lily Ann, Zackary and Aria Mae; 1 brother: Raymond Newell and wife Joan of Columbia, TN; and 2 nephews: Josh Newell and wife Kelly and Nathan Newell; and many cousins, extended family and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law, grandparents, and several aunts.
