Jean Sybil (Schmitz) Stone, 99, of Mason City, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, November 28, 2024. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave. A private graveside service will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Jean was born January 29,1925 to Glenn and Amerett Schmitz. She had 8 sisters and 3 brothers.
She married Kenneth (Kenny) Stone on 11/6/1944 and was blessed with three children – Barbara, David and Nancy. The family lived in South Dakota for a few years and then moved back to Mason City where they built a home next door to the home she grew up in. Jean worked several jobs – a switchboard operator at the phone company and later at Hyland Chick Company and she retired from Iowa Kemper/Economy Insurance company. She was member of Wesley Methodist church.
She loved golfing and spent many evenings golfing with family and friends. She also loved to bowl and won several bowling trophies over the years. She was always busy doing something – sewing, quilting, cross stitching and made many treasured gifts for her children and grandchildren. She loved to play cards every week with her sister Joyce and spent many evenings playing cards and games with her family.
There are no adequate words to sum up a full life that she lived. She worked hard and always had a positive attitude. She loved to share stories and songs from her childhood. Her family will always treasure those stories, and the time spent with her. Though she didn’t quite make it to 100 years old, she was excited to be reunited with loved ones in Heaven.
