Jeanne H. Kalahar

August 17, 1921 — September 24, 2016

Jeanne H. Kalahar, 95, of Mason City, IA, died Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 29, 2016 at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Stein officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania, Mason City, IA is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Jeanne Kalahar Memorial Fund in care of her family.

Jeanne was born August 17, 1921 the daughter of Theron and Ethel (Scroggs) Hilton in Anamosa, IA. Jeanne moved to Mason City with her family at age of 7. She attended and graduated from Mason City Community Schools. Jeanne continued her education graduating from Community College in 1941. On February 7, 1942 Jeanne was united in marriage to Kenneth Kalahar in Princeton, MO. To this union they were blessed with four children Kenneth, Suzan, Jodie and Jon. Jeanne and Kenneth moved around during World War II as Kenneth was a fighter pilot and an instructor. Following Kenneth’s discharge from the service the couple resided in Ames while Kenneth attend ISU. Upon completion of college they moved back to Mason City. Jeanne was a wife, mother and homemaker. They remained in Mason City until they moved to Dubuque, IA in 1972 where they remained until 2002 when the couple returned to Mason City. Jeanne was a dedicated hard working asset to her community. She loved doing volunteer work for the church, Girl Scouts, PTA and PTO. She was a huge supporter of the clubs Kenneth was involved in as well. She volunteered at Finley Hospital in Dubuque for 20 years with the Sunshine Circle. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, Eastern Star, PEO, Study Club and Women's Auxiliary. They enjoyed traveling and spending time at their family cabin in Northern Minnesota. The couple enjoyed hosting large family get togethers and sharing their cabin with all. Jeanne loved the family tradition on the holidays, when all her family would come home to celebrate. She cherished her family and the time she was able to share with them.

Jeanne is survived by her children, Suzan Klevos of Ankeny, IA, Jodie Stevens (Don Fraser) of Alexander, IA, Jon (Julie) Kalahar of Epworth, IA, daughter in law, JoAnne Kalahar of Ankeny IA; seven grandchildren, Jeff Klevos, Tad (MaryEllen) Kalahar, Christina Gaiser, Katie (Justin) Froiland, Kara Gaiser (Joe Willer), Kaycee (Jessie) Schwartzer, Courtney Kalahar (Jessie Walker); nine great grandchildren Kristi and Jessica Kalahar, Jordan and Wyatt Latham, Jackson Froiland, Ryder and Joey Kalahar, Cheyenne and Dawson Schwartzer.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents Theron & Ethel Hilton, husband Kenneth Kalahar, brother Chuck Hilton, sister Jane Gillmore Seeburger, son Kenneth Kalahar II, and two sons-in-law Paul Klevos and Terry Stevens.
