Jerry Roger Kahler

Jerry R. Kahler, 86, of Mason City, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023, at the Good Shepherd Health Center. A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2023, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave. Burial will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family of Jerry Kahler.

Jerry Roger Kahler was born in Mason City on September 1, 1937, to parents Fred and Lillian (Jensen) Kahler. A lifelong resident of Mason City and 1955 graduate of Mason City High School, Jerry had numerous lifelong accomplishments including mechanic technician, EMT certification and local historian. Jerry was on scene of the Buddy Holly accident in 1959. He was inducted into the Iowa Emergency Medical Services Hall of Fame for 49 years of dedicated service. He also was recognized and awarded for steady community volunteering by River City Sunrise Rotary in 2005 and was recognized by the Governors Council for Child Safety Seat for organizing, volunteering, and mentoring. In 2003, Jerry served on the board for the Mason City Sesquicentennial celebration at the Music Man Square and was honored for planning, implementing, designing, and volunteering for the historical history of Mason City. Jerry set the bar of volunteering, not only time, but works, expertise, giving, sharing, and caring with his unselfishness of every resource.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Bonnie Kahler; three children; seven grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; special cousin, Bill Cash.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Robert; special brother-in-law, Jim Tresemer – Papillion, NE.
