Jo Ann K. Thomas

Mason City, Iowa Jo Ann K. Thomas, age 71, of Mason City, died Thursday, December 31, 2009, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at 10:30 AM at the Church of Christ, 710 N. Kentucky, with Rev. Alan Sheldon officiating. Inurnment will take place in Clear Lake Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Jo Ann K. Thomas Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Jo Ann was born on February 24, 1938, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Lawrence and Wilma (Lien) Blanc. She moved with her family to Mason City at the age of 7, and attended and graduated from Mason City High School and also attended Beauty School. She was united in marriage to Dan L. Thomas on April 24, 1961. She worked as a housekeeper at the Sheraton Motor Inn, which is now the old Hanford Inn, for thirty years until her retirement in 2000. January 1, 2010, would have marked her 20th year of sobriety. She will be missed dearly be all who loved and knew her.

Jo Ann is survived by her daughter, Sheila and husband Rodney Haag of Mason City; four grandchildren, Rena, Jessica, Zachary, and Sabrina; daughter-in-law, Trudy Thomas of Lakewood, CO; sisters, Sharon Hartwell of Thornton, IA, Deanne Baier of Mason City and Mila Baier of Mason City;; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Wesley C. Thomas; brother-in-law, Lee; half brother, Lawrence Blanc Jr.; step brother, Richard L. Baier; cousin, Mary Lou Olson.
