Joan Elizabeth Wagner

MASON CITY: Joan Elizabeth Gilmore Wagner, 97, of Mason City, passed into eternity with her beloved husband Bill Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at the Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 1st. St. NE, Mason City, with Rev. Paul Collier officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, January 30, 2015, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Avenue. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Hospice of North Iowa, KCMR Radio or donor’s choice. Joan E. Gilmore was born December 1, 1917 in Vinton, Iowa to W.A. and Lucile (Miller) Gilmore. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1936 and attended Frances Shimer College. She was a PEO member for over 60 years having been initiated in 1951 in chapter GN. She was been a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mason City since 1923. Joan was united in marriage to William Repass Wagner on December 29, 1940 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mason City. She was active in the Women’s Fellowship and a pre-school Sunday teacher for many years. Joan had many talents her family enjoyed. She loved playing the piano and excelled at knitting. She made all her great grandchildren hats and scarves and everyone was treated to sweaters and coats. Nana Jo will be greatly missed by her family. She is survived by her daughters: Pamela (Raymond) Heimbuch, Mason City; and Melinda (Jay) Padgett, West Plains, MO; 5 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by her parents and her husband William.
