Joan Francis Gettman, 74, of Mason City, died Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Memorial services will be held 5:00 PM Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Steve Hansen officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the Church. Inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Joan Gettman memorial fund.
Joan was born August 8, 1941 in Tama, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Marcella (Henle) Osterberger. She graduated from Tama High School in 1959. Joan was employed by Mercy Medical Center North Iowa for 23 years as a nurses aid, retiring in 2000. Joan married Ronald Gettman December 21, 1990 in Mason City. Joan was a long-time member of Wesley United Methodist Church and bell ringer for the Salvation Army. Several of her interests included traveling, casinos, junking, bead work, crocheting, gardening, canning, walking, going to rummage sales, riding on trains, cruises, sewing, singing spiritual songs and enjoyed watching sports on TV with husband Ron.
Joan is survived by her husband, Ron Gettman of Mason City; children, Curt (Erlene) Thomazin of Lakeland, Florida, Kevin Thomazin of Mason City, Connie (Thad) Josten of Forest City, Kitty (Chad) Barr of West Des Moines, Cal (Cheri) Thomazin of Mason City, Robert Thomazin of Leland and Curt Gettman of Dublin, Ohio; 20 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; siblings, Kathy (Walt) Murowski of Sandy, Oregon, Mildred Bauler of Evansdale, Iowa and George (Paula) Osterberger of Bella Vista, Arkansas; Ron’s family, Dorothy Heiderich, Marvyl Buehner, Faye (Marlyn) Lee, Lynda McMannes and Marlene Kruger.
Family members who preceded Joan in death include her parents, Shelly Rene Thomazin, Abigale Denise Thomazin, Crystal Gettman, Raymond Gettman, George Robert Gettman, Bruce Gettman and Darlene Francis.
