John B. Dougan, 89 of 19074 Nettle Avenue, died Saturday, October 29, 2005 at home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church, 201 Willowbrook Drive with Rev. Terry Hamilton-Poore officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue at the church one hour before the service. John was born April 1, 1916 in Bruno Township, Pine County, Minnesota the son of Archie and Mary (Thompson) Dougan. He moved to Mason City at the age of 16 and graduated from Mason City High School and later Mason City Junior College. John married Lois Green October 2, 1943 in Hampton. John had a long and varied career in farming and business. He had many interests, but always enjoyed farming first. John started farming in 1936 near Mason City and farmed his entire life. He had extensive land holdings in Iowa and South Dakota. John was founder and president of Blue Ribbon Beef Packing Plant in Mason City. He served on the board of directors of Iowa Beef Processors, Dakota City, Nebraska from 1969 to 1982. He also served as a director of United Home Bank, which later became First Interstate Bank. John was an active member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Lois of Mason City; daughters, Sue Dougan of Ostrander, Minnesota, Bonnie Tangren and husband Peter of Austin, Minnesota; grandchildren, David Tangren of Dexter, Minnesota, Erica Tangren of New York, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Donald and George.
