John C. Poulos, 88, of 836 East State Street, died Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 1311 2nd St. SW with Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Friday at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church. A Trisagion service will be held at 6:00 PM at the church. Memorials may be given to the John C. Poulos Memorial Fund. John was born November 4, 1917 in Mason City the son of Christ and Irene (Korkidis) Poulos. John?s father, born in Kertezi, Kalavrita, Greece and mother, born in Athens, Greece immigrated to the United States with the last name Konstantakopoulos. John graduated from Mason City High School in 1935 then attended the University of Iowa. John married Genevieve Palmer October 21, 1943 in Gary, Indiana and in January of 1945 they were married in the Greek Orthodox Church in Mason City. While living in Gary, John worked in the Steel Mills. The Pouloses moved to Britt, Iowa where they owned and operated Poulos Billards. In 1955, they returned to Mason City where John worked for Jacob B. Decker and Sons. He retired from Decker?s in 1975. John had also worked for the Hasapopoulos family at the Holiday Motor Lodge in Clear Lake for 25 years. John was a member of the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, where he served as parish council president for 20 years. He was president emeritus of the parish council. He was also a member of the Greek fraternal organization AHEPA and was an active member of the AFL ? CIO Labor Union. John is survived by his wife, Genevieve Poulos of Mason City; son, James Poulos of Duluth, Minnesota; daughters, Pamela Hunssinger and husband Frank of Lake Zurich, Illinois, Kristie Pattison and husband George of Woodstock, New York; grandchildren, Sarah and Andrew Hunssinger, Nicholas Pattison; brother, Sam Poulos and wife Mary Lou of Mason City; sister, Lula Poulos of Mason City; nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Katherine Trigas; niece, Eirini Trigas; nephew, Gregory Poulos.
