John E. Easley

John E. Easley, 89, of Mason City, IA, died Friday, December 30, 2016, at Good Shepherd Health Center. A private family graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the John Easley memorial fund in care of the family.

John was born August 5, 1927, in Mason City, the son of Fred and Susanna (Gunnels) Easley. He attended school in Mason City. In 1944, John served in the U.S. Navy during WWII until his honorable discharge in 1946. On June 2, 1946, John married Phyllis Grier in Mason City. John worked for North Western Cement Plant as a Burner for 43 years until his retirement in 1989. John enjoyed spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren. John also enjoyed attending church, watching football and tending to his vegetable & flower gardens. John was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.

John is survived by 2 sons: Dennis Easley and wife Donna of Mason City and Raymond Easley and wife Nancy of Marion, IA; 6 grandchildren: Jane Swigert and husband Troy of Adel, IA, Jennifer Jones and husband Mike of Ankeny, IA, Melinda Easley of New York, Jonathan Easley and wife Jennifer of Marion, Scott Hildebrand and wife Cori of Oklahoma, and Heather Hallaway and husband Chad of Peculiar, MO; 13 great grandchildren: Morgan, Justin, Marissa, Lennon, Averie, Dylan, Madison, Shelby, Josh, Jack, Micah, Gracie and Hannah; 1 brother: Tom Easley and wife Bev of Mason City; and 2 sisters-in-law: Alice Walker of Des Moines, IA and Millie Creekmur of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2007; 1 daughter: Karen Hildebrand; 3 brothers: Floyd Easley, Leon Easley and Fred Easley; and 2 sisters: Margaret Cady and Florence Rasmussen.
