J. Marlin Hawley, 73, of Mason City, died unexpectedly at his home Thursday, May 3, 2012. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, May 7, 2012, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 1st St. N.E., with the Pastor Patti Aurand officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00PM to 7:00PM, Sunday (May 6, 2012) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to the J. Marlin Hawley memorial fund in care of the family. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com John Marlin Hawley was born January 18, 1939 in Doniphan, Missouri, the son of John K. and Felma (Porter) Hawley. He graduated from Woodbine High School in 1957. John was married to Judy Schueler in December of 1967 in Sioux Falls, S.D, to this union, one son, Mark was born. Marlin co-owned H.R. Block for over forty years with his wife Judy, during these years they met many people in Mason City. Through the years he also worked road construction, drove trucks and delivered Winnebago motorhomes all over the country. He enjoyed rebuilding cars and restoring old tractors. In his younger years he enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles and driving fast cars. Often people would say he resembled the actor John Wayne, in many ways. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters. Marlin was a long-time member of First Congregational United Church of Christ. He is survived by his son, Mark Hawley and wife Jackie of Nevada, IA; two grandchildren, Beverly and Katherine; sisters, Donna Collins and husband Gary of Council Bluffs, IA, Barbara Hawley of Omaha, NE and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy in 2007; and one sister, Beverly Oloff.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.
