John Anthony Maskarina passed away peacefully on April 22, 2023, four days shy of his 74th birthday at Faith Lutheran Nursing Home in Osage, Iowa. As he wished, John's wishes were to be cremated and no services will be held.
John was born and raised in Mason City, Iowa where he spent most of his life. His parents were George Maskarina and Irene Maskarina Willier, both deceased. John also served his country for four years in the Navy from 1968-1972. John married his high school sweetheart Cynthia Cerney (deceased) in 1969 and were married 50 years. They had one son, Chad.
John worked many years for Kraft Foods in Mason City from where he retired. The Upper Peninsula of Michigan was his happy place where he loved the outdoors and visiting relatives. He also enjoyed fishing.
John had three brothers (Mike, James & Paul) and one sister (Jean). Mike and James preceded John in death. His brother Paul Maskarina lives in Mason City. John’s sister, Jean Foley lives with her husband Mike in Ankeny, IA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
John will be remembered as a kind and generous man. The family would like to give special thanks to the exceptional care he received from the staff at Faith Lutheran Nursing Home.
