John Alukos. Beloved husband for 43 years of Mary nee Kiriakos. Loving father of Zacharias (Noelle) and Basili (Nadine) Alukos. Devoted son of the late Zaharias and Bessie Alukos. Dear nephew of Harriet (the late Charlie) Bohac and Gus (the late Barbara) Pappas. Brother-in-law of James (Diane) Kiriakos, Kathy (Dr. Larry) Beaty and Tom (Pamala) Kiriakos. Fond uncle, cousin and friend of many. John taught at Chicago Public Schools for over 40 years finishing his career at Walt Disney Magnet. After retiring, John continued to mentor students and volunteer at Armstrong School, Chicago and Walker School, District 65, Evanston. John will be remembered for his love of food, travel, history, religion, friends and laughter, but most of all he will be remembered for his love of his family. Visitation on Tuesday 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm at SMITH CORCORAN Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave., Chicago. Family and friends will meet Wednesday morning at Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 1401 Wagner Rd., Glenview, IL 60025 for funeral service at 10:30 am. Interment will be held at 3 PM Thursday, June 16, 2016 in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa, with the Rev. Joseph Mirowski, Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Sts. Peter and Paul Church or Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 1311 Second St. SW, Mason City, IA 50401 would be appreciated.
