Joseph N. Malfero Sr., 76, of Greene, IA, originally from Mason City, died Friday, October 7, 2016, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue – Mason City, with Pastor Ed Bard – Chaplain, Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Monday, October 10, 2016, at Major Erickson Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the Joseph Malfero memorial fund in care of the family.
Joseph was born September 17, 1940, in Chicago, IL, the son of Nicholas and Lila Shirley (Leer) Malfero. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1959. On December 17, 1962, he married Judith Hartema in Mason City and lived in California and Nevada, but always returned to Iowa. Joe enjoyed working on cars the majority of his life. He also enjoyed being outdoors soaking up the sun, socializing with anyone & everyone, playing Keno and being a “busy bee”. He loved his family and friends.
Joe is survived by 4 children: Vicky Malfero, Joe Malfero Jr., Nick Malfero and wife Edie, and Angie Malfero; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brother: Gary Malfero(Mary); and 2 sisters: Sandy (Danny) Trombi and Mary Lou Malfero.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife in 1999.
