Julie Platt was born in Kansas, but if you would have asked her, she was “made in Japan.” In the early 1950s, her parents were working for the military in Japan, and when her mother Joye became pregnant, she decided to return to the states to give birth. Julie grew up in Kansas and graduated from Emporia State University with a bachelor’s degree in vocal music. Later in life, she went back to school to earn a paralegal degree.
In addition to her love of singing, Julie also played piano, guitar, and Native American flutes. She was also had a lifelong love of art. Julie enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting, drawing, and painting. If something involved creativity, Julie was interested in trying it out. Julie also enjoyed traveling and has visited (and lived in) several states. Her favorite place to live was the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, where she spent 10 years raising her two children, Joshua and India.
Julie lives on in the memory of her husband (Jeff Platt), her children (Joshua Boughton and India Simpson), her sister (Jami Platt), and her three grandchildren (Colby Lavergne, Noah Lavergne, and Lucas Lavergne).
She is preceded in death by her mother (Joye Platt), father (Roy Goodrich), stepfather (Delbert Platt), and brother (Larry Goodrich).
