Karen J. Olthoff, 78, of Mason City died Thursday October 26, 2017 at Good Shepherd Health Center after a brief battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Monday, October 30, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church, 100 South Pierce Ave., with the Rev. Paul Collier officiating. Inurnment will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery, Britt, Iowa at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4 until 6 PM Sunday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to the Karen Olthoff Memorial Fund in care of the family.
Karen was born August 16, 1939 to Edward and Ruth (Holck) Sillman in rural Britt. She attended country school and graduated from Britt High School. She graduated from Beauty School in Fort Dodge and obtained her beautician license. She worked as a beautician in Britt.
Karen was united in marriage to Jerry Olthoff on August 25, 1961. To this union two daughters and one son were born.
Karen worked with her husband for 18 years at Jack and Jerry's Shell Station. She helped her husband operate South Federal Service for 6 years. She also worked at the Holiday Inn and Principal Financial Group. Karen loved taking care of her grand kids, she also loved feeding and watching birds especially Cardinals. She enjoyed gardening, camping and getting together with family and friends. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Karen is survived by her daughters, Carol (Dave) Djuren of Mason City, Carrie Thomas of Mason City; 7 grandchildren, Travis (Jessi) Djuren of Windsor Heights, Jason (Kasendra) Djuren of Des Moines, Crystal (David) Smith of Lakeville, MN, Norris (Samantha) Hughes Jr. Clear Lake, Candice (Caleb) Bassey of Mason City, Jamar (Mikki) Hughes of Colorado Springs, CO and Tyrrell (fiancé Katilyn Lensing) Hughes of Mason City; 7 great grandchildren, Malakai, Isaiah, Darius, Donte, Traevon, Zahriah and Isabella; three sisters, Marlys Perkins, Donna Sillman and Pam (Ron) Eden and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Olthoff was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jerry; son, Duane; sister, Darlene; brothers, Dale, David and Keith.
