Mason City Karen Lien, 69, of Mason City, died Monday, November 15, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 18, 2010, at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 4th St. S.E., with Pastor Jeni Bohls officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Karen Lien Memorial Fund in care of the family.
Karen O. Lien was born November 24, 1940 in Lake Mills, IA the daughter of William Bill Martinson Sr. and Cora S. Ellingson. She attended schools in Lake Mills until moving to Mason City and graduating in 1958. Karen and Jack were united in marriage on September 17, 1960 and to this union three children were born. Karen and Jack just celebrated their 50th anniversary. She worked at the Globe Gazette in the Classified Ads department for 19 years until her retirement. After retirement she worked at Burkes Bar and Grill for 14 years. Karen looked forward to her weekends which she spent with her family. Saturdays consisted of eating lunch with her kids and grandchildren and then shopping. Sundays were spent playing cards with her kids and grandchildren and she enjoyed cooking for everyone. She enjoyed playing bingo, trips to the casino, bowling and spending time with her "Burke's Girls" . Karen and Jack enjoyed attending car shows. Karen was a very proud and dedicated grandmother that enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities. She enjoyed her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Lien of Mason City; children, Jodi Wendel (Dan Brallier) of Mason City, Kim Mariner (David) of Mason City, and Jay and wife Angie of Mason City; grandchildren, Heather Wendel(Rob Cameron), Cody Wendel, Brittany Cowell and husband Kyle, Dylan and McKenzie Mariner and Parker and Tanner Lien; great-grandson, Gage Cameron; siblings, JoAnn Carlsen, Sheryl Pavelka and husband Joe, Bill Martinson and wife Cindy, Lou Jean Hayes and husband Don.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Milford Martinson, and a brother in infancy and brother-in-law, Darrell Carlsen.

Memorials:
Memorials may be directed to the Karen Lien Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Cemetery:
Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery
