Katherine I. Ward

Katherine I. Ward, 72, of Mason City, IA, died Thursday, February 11, 2016, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Ed Bard of Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Katherine Ward memorial fund in care of the family.

Katherine was born July 24, 1943, in Mason City, the daughter of Leonard and Clara (Eden) Nelson. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1961, and continued her education at NIACC. On September 22, 1973, Katherine was united in marriage to Clarence Ward in Truman, MN. Katherine worked for Child Support Recovery for many years before her retirement on December 31, 2009. Katherine enjoyed playing BINGO, gambling, crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Lodge.

Katherine is survived by 1 daughter: Tracey Lorentzen of Mason City; 1 step-daughter: Melody Harty and husband Tim of rural Mason City; 1 step-son: Gary Ward of Sioux Falls, SD; 3 grandchildren: Dylan Collins, Mariah Collins and Stacy Harty and special friend Brandon; 3 great grandchildren: Wyatt Collins, Simon Collins and Ariahna Cowell; 1 sister: Virginia Funnell and husband David of Brookings, SD; 2 nieces: Sherri Christianson and husband Brian of Brookings and Misti Funnell of Brookings. She is also survived by her 2 great nieces and nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband Clarence on September 24, 1999.
