Kay Lynn Mortimer, 69, of Mason City, IA, died Monday, May 16, 2016, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, May 20, 2016 from 5 until 7 PM at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Deaconess Association.
Kay was born March 7, 1947 the daughter of James and Patricia (Pankow) Svalberg in Denver, CO. Following graduation Kay went on to get her degree at the University of Northern Colorado. In 1977 Kay took additional training as a Deaconess at Valparaiso University. On September 24, 1978 Kay was united in marriage to George W. Mortimer. To this union two children were born.
Kay’s love of children, her caring nature and her desire to give of herself to them made for a great combination that complimented her long teaching career. Her love for the Lord was evident in her passion for prayer and her desire to study the scriptures in depth. Kay enjoyed playing the piano and reading up on her history.
Kay was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Deaconess Association.
Those thankful for having shared in Kay’s life include her husband, George, two children, William James Mortimer of Concord, NH, Elizabeth Kay Mortimer of Columbia, SC, two sisters, Nancy Gene “Nikki” Svalberg, Jimmie Sue “Ja” Svalberg, three grandchildren, Hayden Elizabeth, Madison Denise and Kay’Lynn Crystal Mortimer and two nephews.
Mrs. Mortimer was preceded in death by her parents.
