Kaye was born November 23, 1946, in Osage, IA, the son of Roy Betts and Velma (Lewis) Betts. He attended school in McIntire and Riceville, IA. On October 5, 1968, he married Pat Hackbart in Mason City. Kaye was employed by both the Cerro Gordo County Court House - custodial (since 1981) and McGregor’s Furniture Store (since 1982), until his retirement in 2009. Kaye was a hard worker and a great role model, supporter and provider for his family. Kaye loved spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren; they were his pride and joy. He enjoyed and looked forward to their sporting events, recitals, and taking them to the movies. And of course, he always had a yummy treat waiting for them. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. He had a great appreciation for nature and liked going for car rides and taking day trips to Wisconsin. Kaye was a kind hearted man who will be deeply missed. Kaye is survived by his wife of 44 years: Pat Betts of Mason City; his children: Robert (Kendra Sporing) Betts of Mason City and Tonya (Gene Timmons) Betts of Mason City; 4 grandchildren: Aaron, Evelyn, Avery and Hadley; 3 brothers – including his twin-brother: Keith Betts of Mason City, Leon Betts and wife Mariel of Clarion, IA, and Neil Betts and wife Mary of Osage; sister-in-law: Darlene Betts of Mason City; brother-in-law Charlie Hackbart and wife Glenda, of Ackley, Iowa, and sister-in-law Bev DeWalle of Charles City, Iowa, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his extended families at the Court House and McGregor’s Furniture. Kaye was so trusted by the Judges of Cerro Gordo County that he was able to oversee the people who had to complete community service, and they also became his extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law: Blenn Betts; 3 brothers: Eugene, Eldon and Gordon Betts; and 2 sisters: Bedola “Carol” Walters and Nelda Eastman.
