Larry James Sorenson, 69, of Mason City, died Saturday, August 4, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 10, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia, with Rev. Sean McRoberts officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Thursday (August 9, 2012) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Larry Sorenson memorial fund in care of the family. Larry was born September 29, 1942, in Forest City, IA, the son of Harlan Edmund James and Geraldine Merium (Sorensen) Sorenson. He grew up in Crystal Lake, IA and graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1960. Larry also graduated with a business degree from the Hamilton School of Business. Larry married Marianne Esther Anderson on June 9, 1963, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson, IA. He worked as a Salesman/Branch Manager for 18 years and later became company Manager for 24 years at Plumb Supply, before his retirement in 2005. His career was very important to him. Larry was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was also a member of North Iowa Builders Exchange, Chamber of Commerce, and a former member of the Exchange Club and Lions Club. Larry enjoyed spending time with his family - especially his grandchildren, whom he loved to tease. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, entertaining family & friends, and most of all - holding hands with his wife. Larry was a great protector and provider for his family - always there to offer guidance. He will be deeply missed. Larry is survived by his wife of 49 years: Marianne Sorenson of Mason City; his children: Susan Wiger and husband Greg of Brainerd, MN - and their children: Christopher and Sarah Wiger; David Sorenson and wife Barbara of Brandon, SD - and their children: Brittany Otterson and husband Michael and Austin Sorenson, and Diana VanHal and husband Todd of Eldridge, IA - and their children: Leah and Drew VanHal; and one sister: Joan Buttjer of Cresco, IA. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, many nieces & nephews, and his dog: Brookie. He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws: Alfred and Esther Anderson; brothers-in-law: LaVern Buttjer and Paul Anderson; and sister-in-law: Kathy Anderson.

Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery
