LaVonne "Bonnie" I. Olson, 81, of Ames, IA and formerly of Mason City, IA, died Friday, November 6, 2015 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church – WAYside Chapel, 119 S. Georgia – Mason City, with Rev. Kathy R. Moore officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Bonnie was born February 20, 1934, in Mason City, the daughter of Clarence and Mabel (Rhodes) Hubacher. On April 15, 1952, Bonnie was united in marriage to Clarence "Oley" J. Olson at the old United Methodist Church in Mason City.
Following graduation from Mason City High School in 1952, Bonnie was employed with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, where she held many positions, starting as an operator and working her way up to manager. In 1976, Bonnie and Oley moved to Pella, IA, where after her retirement from the phone company in 1986, she was employed by EyeCare Partners P.C. in Pella. They returned to Mason City in 1993. Bonnie enjoyed quilting, casino trips, boating, jet skiing, traveling with family and friends, as well as dining out with friends from the “Friday Night Bunch”. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Telephone Pioneers.
Bonnie is survived by her daughter: Kathie Burditt and husband Ken of Ames; 1 brother: John Hubacher and wife Esther of Mason City; 2 sisters-in-law: Delores Olson of Mason City and Karen Hubacher of North Carolina; and 2 brothers-in-law: Art Wagner of Mason City and Russell Moretz of Hanlontown, IA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1995; 2 brothers: Floyd Hubacher and Charles Hubacher; 3 sisters: Darlene Hubacher, Irene Moretz and Florence Wagner; and her companion of 13 years, Jerry Miller in 2013.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bonnie Olson memorial fund in care of the family. Memorials will be dispersed between Hospice of North Iowa and the Israel Family Hospice House.
