Mason City Leo R. Wood, 95, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit following a short illness. Upon his wishes he was cremated and memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Leo R. Wood memorial fund in care of the family.
Leo was born May 7, 1915 in Mason City, the son of Rollie and Tomina Wood. Leo was raised in Corwith, Iowa area by his grandparents. He attended schools in the in Corwith, Kanawha and Britt area. Leo enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy and was on a ship during the Pearl Harbor Attack. Leo worked many years at the Northwestern Portland Cement Plant until his retirement in 1980. He owned his own Carpet Cleaning business along with carpet installation. He was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a life member of the V.F.W.
Leo is survived by his wife, Iola Wood; children, Ron (Pam) Wood, Leslie (Larry) Knudson, Deborah (Jack) Digman, Diane (Mike) Ross, Rhonda Genzler; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Karen Wood; brother, Cliff Wood and also two grandsons. Leos Life Motto Just Gotta Have Fun.
