Lester R. Marth, 84, of Mason City, died Thursday, February 26, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday (March 2, 2009) at First United Methodist Church, 119 South Georgia with Rev. Jim Stiles officiating. Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday in Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.
Lester Raymond Marth was born September 16, 1924 in Ulster township, Floyd county, Iowa, the son of Henry and Anna (Adolphs) Marth. He attended a rural school in Ulster township and graduated from Rockford High School. He married Doris Boyd March 25, 1947 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA, to this union three daughters were born.He began farming west of Charles City and moved to rural Mason City in 1956, where he continued to farm. He loved his family and he enjoyed the times he spent with them.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mason City, Iowa.He is survived by three daughters; Merikay Mestad, Garner, Iowa; Pamela (Edward) Benish, Winona, Minnesota; Gail (Philip) Allison, Clear Lake, Iowa; four grandchildren: Lisa Benish, Jason (Paula) Allison; Hope Saadaoui; Joseph (Kelly) Allison; great granddaughter, Olivia Allison; brothers, Harold (Bonnie) Marth, Rockford, Iowa; Richard (Nancy) Marth, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Janet (Wayne) Rawley, Iowa City, Iowa; brother-in-laws, Wilbert Brandau, Raymond Koehler and Duane (Genevieve) Boyd.He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris in 2006, grandson, Adam Benish; and five siblings: Melvin Marth, Dorothy Kruse, Ruth Koehler, Luella Brandau, and Lloyd Marth.
