Lloyd S. Olson, 94, of Mason City, died Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at the IOOF Home. Memorial Services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday (August 11, 2007) at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 South Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Keith Scott officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Inurnment will be held in Rapid City, SD at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Lloyd S. Olson memorial fund. Lloyd was born January 13, 1913 in Vermillion, South Dakota to Alfred and Laura Olson. He married Antonia Wells, on August 14, 1948. She preceded him in death on November 22, 1983. Lloyd married Dorothy Halsten, of Mason City, on April 18, 1987. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Olson; two sisters, Dorothy Wiehe and Elinore Pavak, of South Dakota; one brother, Francis Olson, of the state of Washington; Judy (Robert) Duda, Dari Marino, and Holly Bradbury all of Mason City, and Jeff (JoAnn) Jensen of Illinois; seven grandchildren, Mike (Angie) Duda, Daniel (Sue) Duda, Shannon Duda, Justin Bradbury, all of Mason City, Eric (Paula) Jensen, Cory (Karah) Jensen, and Megan Jensen, all of Illinois; and also nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Helene, Patricia, Clara and one step-son, Lyle. Lloyd was a decorated veteran of WWII, receiving a Purple Heart after being hit by a land mine in Mindanao. Lloyd also received three campaign medals, Asiatic Pacific, American and Victory World War II campaign. Lloyd also received the Good Conduct Medal. He worked for the Cement plant in Rapid City, SD, retiring in 1973. Lloyd was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Mason City. Lloyd enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, woodworking, gardening, church activities, camping and family vacations. Lloyd will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Lloyd was a very social person and enjoyed nothing more than having people around and good conversations. His great wit will be sorely missed.
