Lola M. Roppe, 97, of Mason City, died Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, June 27, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to the Lola M. Roppe Memorial Fund. Trinity Lutheran Church and KCMR Radio Station will be major recipients of the memorial fund.
Lola was born May 17, 1919 in Grafton, Iowa the daughter of John and Alvina (Braun) Ueker. She graduated from Grafton High School. Lola married Irving Roppe January 2, 1944 in Grafton. They moved to Mason City that same year. Throughout her life, Lola was employed at various businesses in Mason City working as a bookkeeper and other roles, although, her family, friends and church remained her priority. Lola was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton until her marriage in 1944 when she joined Trinity Lutheran Church. In addition to being very involved in church activities, she was a past director of the Mason City Women’s Club, officer for Pilot Club, past officer of the Manor Association, volunteered at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa and belonged to numerous card clubs.
Lola will always be known as a bright light with a ready laugh, and a positive force for what was right. Her love of friends and family was evident in all she did. The coffee pot was always “on” at her home…ready to welcome any visitors. Even at Good Shepherd she was always eager to get people coffee and serve them cookies and snacks. And if you ever wanted to play cards, Lola was ready to play and ready to win!
Lola is survived by 1 daughter, Diane Ruebling of Scottsdale, Arizona; 1 son, Michael Roppe of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 2 grandchildren, Kristin Ruebling-Jass and spouse Angela Ruebling-Jass of Wilmington, Delaware, Brenton Ruebling of Plymouth, Minnesota; 1 great grandson, Charles; 1 sister, Virginia and brother-in-law Lowell Walk of Grafton; 1 niece, Nancy Walk and 2 nephews, Bruce and John Knapp.
Lola was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Irving in 1984; 2 sisters, Gladys Ueker and Dorothy Knapp and son-in-law, Chuck Ruebling.
