Lula M. Hodenfield

MASON CITY: Lula M. Hodenfield, 82, of Mason City, died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, April 20, 2009 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Interment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery in Clear Lake, IA. Memorials may be directed to the Lula Hodenfield memorial fund.

Lula was born March 14, 1927 in Fertile, IA, the daughter of Edward and Altie (Jones) Rodberg. The family moved to Mason City in 1937. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1946. Lula worked for Marshall and Swift prior to her marriage to Earl Hodenfield. They were married on December 23, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City. To this union, 4 children were born. They lived in Mason City there entire life. Lula was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was also a life long member of the DAV and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bingo, dancing, and playing cards. She loved her cat Honey very much.

Lula is survived by her children: Irene Truax and husband David of Mason City, Peggy Werstein of Mason City, and Jim Hodenfield and wife Diane of Rochester, MN; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren with one on the way in May; 2 sisters-in-law: Betty Hanson of Manly, IA and Bonnie Rodberg of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl in 2002; son, Carl; one grandson, Chad; brother, Stanton Rodberg; sister, Cora Kofoot; son-in-law, Jerry.
